Widgets

Widget is a fancy word for tools or content that you can add, arrange, and remove from the sidebars of your site. Widgets make it easy to customize the content of your sidebars.

You can access widgets by going to Appearance → Customize → Widgets in your admin panel. Here you’ll be able to add, remove, and configure widgets for your site.

Adding and Configuring Widgets

When viewing the Widgets section in the customizer, you’ll see your theme’s available widget areas for that page. Some pages have more or less widget areas than others.

To add a widget, first click on a widget area. In the panel, click on Add a Widget. The customizer will show all of the available widgets that you can add. Scroll the alphabetized list of widgets, or use the search field at the top to find a particular widget. Then, click on a widget to add it. The Customizer will then display a box to configure the widget’s settings. Rinse and repeat to add more widgets.

Widgets can also be reordered by dragging and dropping widgets up or down. After making changes to the widget order, be sure to click the blue Save & Publish button at the top of the panel.

Widget Visibility

Configuring widgets to appear only on certain pages (or be hidden on certain pages) can be very useful when dealing with multiple pages and a single sidebar area. To control this type of functionality, we recommend using the Widget Visibility module in Jetpack.

Custom Page Sidebars

In some cases, you may want to assign custom sidebars to any page. This can be also be incredibly useful when dealing with multiple pages. In this case, we recommend the Simple Page Sidebars plugin.

Removing Widgets

If you would like to remove a widget from the sidebar, click the Delete link in the widget’s configuration options.
