Artist Spotlight: BIordanis

This month we’re shining the spotlight on BIordanis, an emotionally driven composer and piano player whose music is best described as an instrumental expression of feelings.

We caught up with Iordanis Boutsioulis (BIordanis) to learn more about his music, upcoming projects, and what he likes most about his Promenade theme.

AT: What’s your story? How did you get involved with music?

B: BIordanis is the artistic name of Iordanis Boutsioulis. Let’s start from the beginning. I did 5 years piano lessons (when I was in primary and high school). From the first year of lessons, I started playing my favorite music songs by ear. Being lucky and having a piano at home, I started playing, experimenting and creating my own music compositions and improvisations. In the late years of high school, I bought my first synthesizer and that was the first time I started composing music tracks.

When I was student in College, I joined, as a member, the music group of Stylianos (a new singer and artist of that time) playing keyboards. As a group, we did almost 30 live concerts. I stayed there for a couple of years. When I graduated, I focused on my profession and I continued to play and compose music for my pleasure.

After many years of work, I finally created a home studio that gave me the ability not only to play and compose, but to produce also my records and tracks. That was a very creative and happy period; I could express my feelings through my music being simultaneously able to produce whatever I wanted.

My philosophy is that you play and compose music to express yourself and your feelings. It is a way of escaping by “internal travelling” to places that only art can take you and sometimes being able to connect with the energy that surrounds everything in life. It is exactly the same feeling that unites all people and uplifts them when they listen to really good music.

AT: How would you describe your sound?

B: I cannot easily describe my music. It is an instrumental expression of feelings. I like to play and compose music that makes my mind escape somewhere else. It is like creating the soundtrack of my life. It is music that creates emotions. For every person this is different. When I play, I like to improvise a lot and through those improvisations many new ideas are generated. These ideas create strong emotions to me and they are usually the foundation for my music compositions.

AT:Who are your musical heroes?

B: I like to play and compose music that makes you feel emotions. For me, all the musical heroes/artists that I love and respect (for their magnificent contribution in music, art and culture), have this characteristic. You listen to their music and you always feel powerful emotions!
Bands: U2, Coldplay, Pink Floyd, Beatles, Queen, Killers and Abba.
Music composers: John Williams, Hans Zimmer, Ennio Morricone, Andrew Lloyd Webber and Elton John.

Of course there are many others out there, but these are really great musicians, composers and performers. That is exactly why I love many times to play and improvise their music in piano. (Especially, U2 and Hans Zimmer). As a tribute to them, and also because I enjoy it very much too, I upload regularly in my web site and social media, new videos of playing and improvising their music in piano. In other words, I love to create and perform improvisations of piano covers with music that I respect and like.

AT: What’s your most popular/fan favorite song? Where can we hear it?

B: People, friends and me, like very much the tracks “Responsive Images” and “Wondering Around” from my second record “Music Compositions & Improvisations Vol. 2”.
You can find those on my website: www.biordanis.com

Last but not least, a lot of people like also the improvisations I upload (of piano cover of well-known music tracks). You can find those on YouTube and www.biordanis.com

AT: What’s your favorite thing about your AudioTheme website or the AT framework?

B: The thing about Promenade by AudioTheme that I like is the elegance it offers. Moreover, the specific options it provides help a user to create a beautiful, responsive and presentable music website that is also professional and easy for people to navigate. I believe that if you want a complete solution for your music website, AudioTheme delivers that.

AT: Is there anything new or exciting that you can share with us? Anything to look forward to?

B: I am working for my third record that is going to include my eleven new compositions under the title “Music Compositions & Improvisations Vol. 3 in Piano”. Soon, you will be able to find it on my website and YouTube. The first music track will be released (in HD video) under the name “Crazy Horse”. By the end of December 2014, I will also release the second track.

In addition, every week I upload a HD video with a new improvisation or composition in piano for all of you to enjoy!
